Coatings for Metal

Northern Coatings and Chemical Company has many solutions to your metal finishing needs. High performance and quality appearance can be achieved using environmentally friendly high solids, waterborne or 100% solids liquid coatings, with low or zero Volatile Organic Content (VOC).

Examples of some of our product finishes for metals:

Coil coatings. Northern is a leader in providing coil-applied finishes for precoated metal substrates with extreme flexibility, including epoxy, polyester, polyurethane, and specialties such as high temperature coatings, rubber, deep-draw and weldable coatings. Contact us for your specific needs.

Spray-bake enamels. These high solids thermoset coatings provide a hard, durable finish with low curing energy requirements and low VOC and HAP content. Examples of some of these coatings include catalyzed enamel designed to apply over oily substrates with excellent corrosion resistance, textured finish coatings, and decorative enamels with sunlight and water resistance.

High temperature resistant coatings. We are a leader in high performance coatings that are resistant to high operating temperatures. Examples include black and aluminum finishes for exhaust systems with extended performance and superb retention of appearance at temperatures of 1000°F and above.

High performance waterborne coatings for fasteners and components. Our Texacote® waterborne coatings provide the perfect combination of physical properties and corrosion resistance, and are specified by the major automotive and truck manufacturers for coated fasteners. Our Aqua DuraGard waterborne coatings provide extended corrosion resistance for metal components.

High performance primers. A full line of solventborne and waterborne air-dry and force-dry primers are available, including epoxys, zinc-rich primers, modified alkyds and acrylics.

Waterborne primer-sealers for castings. Northern is a leader in providing high quality affordable dip enamels for castings such as used in transportation for transmission and gearbox housings.

Direct-to-metal (DTM) finishes for metals. We have a full range of waterborne and solventborne air-dry and bake enamels for finishing metals with a single coat. These include acrylics, polyesters, modified alkyds, waterborne urethanes and many other polymer technologies. Available in every gloss range and color, including metallics, we can custom formulate to meet your exact needs.

High solids urethanes. These high solids two-component enamels are based on high quality acrylic polymers with isocyanate hardeners, and are available in any color or gloss range. Applications for metal finishing with high quality urethanes include areas where excellent exterior durability is required.

NISO acrylic epoxy enamels. These high solids two-component coatings are based on acrylic polymer technology which provides the performance of two-component urethanes, without the concerns that may be associated with isocyanates. They are “Non-ISOcyanate: NISO”. Applications of these coatings include end uses where a non-isocyanate option is preferred.

UV Cure coatings for metals. Meeting your specific requirements, we have the capability to formulate 100% solids or waterborne coatings for metals. Available in both clear and pigmented forms, these are instantly cured using ultraviolet (UV) light.
